Absolut is a Swedish vodka brand whose modern international story began with its launch in New York in 1979. Production remains concentrated in and around Åhus in southern Sweden under the brand’s One Source philosophy: Swedish winter wheat and locally sourced well water form the foundation of the vodka, and production and distillation take place in the same community. The brand traces its distilling heritage to Lars Olsson Smith, who introduced continuous distillation in Sweden in 1879, a method that remains central to Absolut’s production. Over time, Absolut developed a broad portfolio of flavoured vodkas while retaining Original as its flagship expression and Elyx as its luxury, single-estate vodka. Absolut has also built a distinctive cultural identity through its iconic transparent apothecary-inspired bottle, long-running art and advertising collaborations, and its 'Born to Mix' positioning. Today, The Absolut Company is part of Pernod Ricard, while Absolut continues to be produced in Åhus.
